Hi! My name is Melanie. I live in southeast Michigan, but am originally from Salem, Virginia. My husband, Dana, and I have been married since 1998. We both graduated from Kentucky Mountain Bible College with Bachelor’s Degrees in 2002. We lived in Kentucky from 1998 to 2012 and moved to Michigan, where Dana pastors a Wesleyan church, thus the name Thriving in the Fishbowl. It has long been said that the pastor’s family lives in a fishbowl because people watch them. However, with social media, we ALL live in fishbowls as we watch and compare ourselves to each other! Dana and I have four children, ages 13-23, one boy and three girls. Our son just graduated from University of Michigan and now works in Tupelo, Mississippi as a meteorologist. Our oldest daughter is married and lives in Ohio, where she is pursuing a degree in Elementary Education. In addition to being a pastor’s wife, I homeschool the two youngest girls and play mom shuttle service!
It was after I had baby number four that I knew I needed to make a change to my health. I remember going to the store and looking at the size jeans I was getting ready to buy…because I had gained MORE weight, and thinking, “Something has to change!” At that point, I sought out a friend on Facebook and signed up to go through a fitness program with her. I did the entire program, ALL summer long, and lost NO weight! Why? Because I had no idea how to eat. At that point, I sought out the help of someone who could help me learn to eat. At that point, I hated most all vegetables. I prayed that God would help me change my eating habits as I slowly began implementing healthy habits. It took a while to overhaul forty years of eating whatever I wanted, but as I started introducing new foods and habits into my life, I finally got the results I had so long desired. At that point, I was encouraged by a friend to begin coaching.
Fast forward and I am now a nationally board certified Health and Wellness Coach; am a Certified Personal Trainer through NASM; and am also certified to teach several group fitness formats. I desire to REALLY get my clients the results they want and need. My mission is to help people thrive-mind, body, and soul. I want people to feel healthy and live vibrant lives. I do this by approaching coaching from a Deep Health perspective. Simply focusing on exercise won’t work alone. It takes checking in on our nutrition, sleep, stress, relationships, and emotions! I would love to help you thrive! Contact me for a free consultation call!
